Student Wellness and Success Fund Plan

Updated and presented to board September 2025.
Ohio Digital Learning School will use the Student and Wellness Success Funds to fund two school counselors, one family and engagement coordinator, and one school nurse. These positions will allow us to service the whole student and support them on their path to graduation.

Initiative 1: Hiring of 2 School Counselors
School counselors play a crucial role in supporting the mental health of students. Their responsibilities include:
  • Emotional Support: School counselors provide a safe and confidential space for students to express their emotions and concerns. They offer emotional support and guidance to help students navigate challenges.
  • Educational Guidance: They guide academic and career choices, helping students set goals and make informed decisions about their future, which can contribute to overall well-being.
  • Preventive Programs: Counselors often implement preventive programs that focus on mental health awareness, stress management, and building resilience among students.
  • Collaboration with Families and Staff: School counselors work closely with parents, teachers, and other school staff to create a network of support for students. This collaborative approach ensures a holistic approach to student well-being. Overall, school counselors play a multifaceted role in fostering the mental health and well-being of students, addressing both immediate concerns and promoting long-term resilience.

Initiative 2: Hiring of a Family and Engagement Coordinator

As a virtual school, family engagement is crucial to success, and the Family and Engagement Coordinator is the catalyst for creating a supportive and holistic educational environment by fostering community connections and family engagement while providing essential support services. The family and engagement coordinator will:
  • Establishing Connections: Creating connections between students, their families, and community resources by developing strategies to strengthen ties and collaborations in the school community to enhance overall student well-being.
  • Promoting Engagement and Positive Support: Create opportunities for families to actively participate in the learning process by fostering an environment that encourages collaboration, engagement, and overall success in the virtual learning setting.

Initiative 3: Hiring of School Nurse

A virtual school nurse plays a critical role in maintaining and promoting student health in an online learning environment. By providing remote medical consultations, health education, and preventive services, a virtual school nurse can help reduce absenteeism, manage chronic conditions, and respond to health concerns.
  • Enhance Student Health: Provide immediate medical advice and ongoing health management for students through virtual consultations.
  • Promote Wellness Education: Educate students on healthy lifestyle choices, disease prevention, and mental health awareness through online workshops and resources.
  • Support Academic Success: Reduce health-related barriers to learning, thereby improving attendance and academic performance in a virtual setting.

Ohio Digital Learning School anticipates the initiatives these funds supply will:

  • Increase graduation rate;
  • Decrease in dropout rate;
  • Increase course passing rate;
  • Increase family satisfaction and enrollment retention of students.

Community Partners:

  • Educational Service Center of Lake Erie West to provide training to administrators, teachers, and other stakeholders and offer various school services, such as attendance services and family engagement resources.
  • Ohio Digital Learning School services students throughout the state of Ohio and strives to provide referrals and resources to families no matter the county they live in. We have a wide range of contacts for mental health programs throughout the state and ensure families are connected to any program needed.
